PERMATApintar and Its Camp =)

Geez. It seems like I have like two weeks before I have to go back to school. I am going to be a Form Five student, guys. 😅

My school holiday this time is okay although by now we haven't go for any family vacation yet and I think I've been being lazy and helpful at the same rate at home right now. ✌ Comparing this school holiday with my previous school holidays since Form One, I would say that this one is the least productive. This is because for the last three December school holidays, I went to a camp.

Putting up tent, making bonfire each night, roasting marshmallows, no-technology days.
Nope. Not this camp.

In fact, I went to the kind that people would call 'summer camp'. And in bahasa Melayu is of course 'kem cuti sekolah'. Kah

I went to the one held by PERMATApintar National Gifted Center. In my first post I did mention that I am a PERMATApintar alumnus, and that means that I have attended at least a camp held by the said organisation.

The name PERMATApintar has been known to be related with what people would call genius kids. I think I should not speak more when readings can be made by surfing PERMATApintar's official website itself.

What is the point of the camp? I would say that it is a medium for the PERMATApintar admin to select students for admission to Kolej PERMATApintar, one of the school prepared for Malaysian gifted and talented teengers. Besides, it is also a way to enhance the potential of the students, as each of the students have undergoes the tests needed before offered a place to the camp.

Test? What test?
To be offered to the camp (which is held on May-June and November-December school holidays annually), each student must pass two IQ tests prepared by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The first test, which is called UKM1, is taken online without receiving help from others. If UKM1 is passed with needed score, the student should sit for UKM2 test that is taken online at a center set by the admin and PPD under the observation of invigilators.

You can see the flow here 😊

I went to the camps thrice. On November-December 2013, December 2014 and December 2015. At the camp, each student is set into groups we called as "course". Each course may consist of one or two classes which each class consists of about 15 students with an instructor, a teaching assistant and a resident assistant. Each course offers different learning syllabus and activities. Some of the famous courses are Kryptology, Robotic and Mathematics Reasoning (Penaakulan Mantik). You can get the idea of the syllabus taught by hearing to the course name.

The course set for each student is determined by the student's interest and ability shown in the UKM2 test and the availibility of place. Alhamdulillah all courses I joined were really something that I have interest in.

On Dec 2013, I've got the course Mengarang Penulisan (Crafting Essays). I have always love writing in English. And our instructor, Mr Hasrul conducted the classes in English 😁 You can guess what we did back then. All writing and discussing on certain thing and analysing essays and brainstorming on our own essays. Like I said earlier, I like writing in English so I didn't find the class boring because a few of my friends did.

This was pinned up at the door our Language lab

Writing daily journal was one of the activities

One of our boards where we proudly show our colorful products

Our personal lockers. Spot mine!

For December 2014, I was in Crystal and Polymer (Kristal & Polimer). Basically we learnt chemistry and did touched the basics of crystal and polymer.  Then did a lot of experiments which were really FUN!!

We've got a hot plate there instead of Bunsen burner.
Something I didn't know exist before

Apologies for the mess 😅

Polyurethanes we made. Polyol + isocyanate I still remember hahah

And for my last PpCS (PERMATApintar Cuti Sekolah), I've got Biologi Pecutan (Fast-paced Biology) where we learnt most of MOE biology syllabus in that three weeks.

I dont have much photo for that camp geez 😓
But needless to say that it was also fun ok

Basically what we did at the camp was not all just in-class learning ok. There are also spiritual programmes prepared by the camp admin and not to forget the class trips.

MP and I went to this at Marina Putrajaya

My girlfriends in MP. Now we don't see each other anymore 😭

Spiritual programme is mandatory

And let's not forget talentime!!!

I know this pic show what seems like an assembly but it was reallt talentime Dec 2015 😪

You can watch some of our talentime videos on Youtube. Insert words like 'ppcs' 'permata pintar' and 'talentime'. You can witness our amazing talent ok

My precious moments in PPCS not only taught me about info and experience I didn't find in school. It also gave me the chance to be in a multiracial environment. You see, I always go to school full of Malays. At ppcs I met people from faraway Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak. I made friends with Chinese, Indian-Chinese, Iban and Kadazan beside Malays. I truly felt like I was at at a typical boarding school with friends from all over Malaysia because at my school, all my friends are either from Selangor, KL, Putrajaya or Kedah (with a few Penangites). It is also where I learnt about how to mix with opposite gender. Plus, all my PPCS friends are of different backgrounds. Some are older than me, some are younger. Some go to boarding schhool, some to tahfiz, some to single sex school. I honestly feel like PERMATApintar is my second school 😩

PERMATApintar is also the place where I developed my confidence and social skill. You know, it's good to start all over at a place no one knows you, right? To some, I would like to say with all of the said above is why I am so attacched to PERMATApintar 😔

Anyway, it is at the camp where you will be sitting of various test component of UKM3 from which they will select the students for KPp. Some of the compoonents are interview (😱),EQ test and evaluation from the camp staff.

If you are 9 to 15 years old, you should take the UKM1 test HERE. Who knows you are the gem the nation are looking for? You need to be shaped early, you know 😉

And even if you are not an alumnus of PERMATApintar, remember that every child is precious 😊

p/s update on 7 July 2021, PERMATApintar has been branded to GENIUS@Pintar due to the change of government. For more info please direct to their new website
